π-conjugate organic semiconductors are widely used in consumer electronics. The Raman spectrum of these materials changes when exposed to radiation, and the aims of this project are twofold (i) to better understand the radiation hardness of organic semiconductor devices and their potential to be used as dosimeters, and (ii) to explore commercial off the shelf devices to understand how they respond to radiation. For example, can smartphones be analysed to determine if they have been exposed to non-trivial levels of radiation to open the way for exploring the potential for smart devices to be used in nuclear forensics as part of the evidence chain for determining if an individual has been in the vicinity of illicit radioactive material.
