To lead and be accountable for ensuring the timely, efficient and courteous provision of Nuclear Medicine Therapy services within the available resources. To support the Chief Technologist and Deputy Chief Technologist in the operational management of the Nuclear Medicine department. Continually develop the service in your area by formulating and implementing proposals for changes / service improvement. Coordination of all therapy work involving liaison with ward managers, medical staff, allied health professionals, medical physics and administrative staff as well as patients and referring clinicians.
Take responsibility for the day to day running of the service. Responsibility of ensuring all therapy isotopes are ordered through procurement while monitoring budgets and cost centres. To be the lead technologist in administering a wide range of therapies including I131 and Ra223 (shared with physics and medical staff) and Lu177 Dotatate and Lu177 PSMA (from second course onwards). This includes the provision of an accompanying explanation and aftercare instructions in conjunction with medical physics.To run shared clinics for new patients with consultant medical staff to become familiar with the patients that will be attending for treatments.
Required to formulate service delivery plans over the short to medium term, which may be complex. To be responsible for dealing with enquiries related to therapies from patients, carers, and clinicians. To co-ordinate patient follow-up after therapy, in conjunction with consultant medical staff and medical secretaries, including the provision of follow-up clinics by phone/video. To be the link practitioner, coordinating communication between patients having therapy, their carers, and primary carers with consultant medical staff.
Working closely with other service leads. To obtain and review clinical samples in relation to therapy and ongoing monitoring of patients in liaison with their carers and clinicians. Lead training of technologist staff in administering therapies and ensure that the therapy protocols are both maintained and developed. To attend MDT meetings which are relevant to the role.
Ensure all therapy documentation is up-to-date and correct. Responsible for developing protocols and proactively contribute to Standard Operating Procedures. Ensure clinical skills are maintained. Undertake other duties as may be necessary due to change of practise within the department from time to time, commensurate with grade for this post, and under the direction of the Service Lead.
Be responsible for, monitor, and manage the waiting lists and performance data. As a line manager, the post holder must undertake appraisals for identified staff within the department, be involved in recruitment and selection of staff, respond to sickness absences ensuring that there is appropriate cover, and ensure that you have an active continuing professional development programme for yourself and other staff. Perform risk assessment within area of responsibility, identifying action and updating the risk register appropriately. Monitoring the training needs of team members and identifying suitable provision.
Be responsible for the safe use of expensive, highly complex and specialist equipment.
